Treading the boards this autumn

Following on from refurbishment in spring 2009, there’s now a new name and logo for Luton Library Theatre. Instead of the LIBRARY theatre, of which there are several up and down the country, it’s now Luton Library Theatre. Of which, there is only one and the team there are proud of it. Luton Library Theatre’s autumn season brochure has just been released and it features a whole host of acts to make this an amazing season.
The programme features Luton Music (Club), whose classical concert series starts on the 27 September. Music Club brings some of the world’s leading exponents of classical music to the heart of Luton. Tickets to these superb concerts are less than half of the price that you might expect to pay in the capital. Starting the season is the Barbirolli Quartet and Sophia Lisovskaya playing music by Haydn, Chopin and Schumann.
Luton’s favourite son, John Hegley, performs his new show based on his collection the Adventures of Monsieur Robinet. Even more stand up comedy is provided by Greg Davies, of We Are Klang and Mock the Week fame, in his one man show, Firing Cheeseballs at a Dog (no, we don’t know either…).

Elvis would have been 75 this year, relive his best years with Willard Ford as Elvis in Viva Las Vegas. Do you prefer jazz? Then come and see Verona Chard in concert, performing works from her new album, Fever. Some visitors will remember Verona when she played the evil fairy in last year’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty. Speaking of pantomime, our traditional family pantomime for 2010 is the classic story of love and romance, Cinderella.
For families, as well as our great pantomime, you can introduce the young ones to theatre and culture through our Dragon Club programme. Dragon Club offers activities for all those aged 2 to 12 years. This season’s Dragon Club events at Luton Library Theatre include The Greatest Bubble Show on Earth, Scarecrow, Pinocchio and Katrina the Smallest Christmas Tree. Dragon Club is free to join and show prices are kept low and include one free adult ticket per child.
The big star films for this season are Robin Hood, Letters to Juliet and Alice in Wonderland. What is better than watching a film on the big screen? Why not come along and treat yourself at just £4 per ticket, or £3 concessions?
It’s not over yet, there are the talents of Luton locals in the Griffin Players and Phoenix Players. Both amateur dramatic groups have shows with us this season, including Griffin’s annual pantomime, Dick Whittington and his Cat.

The team at Luton Library Theatre hopes you will visit this season and give them the chance to show you why Luton Library Theatre is the best value theatre around. Would you like to find out more?
